1968 During the Miss America Competition in Atlantic City Broadway, the infamous "Freedom Trashcan Protest" took place. 400 women protested against cultural pressure by tossing their bras, cosmetics, and hairsprays in the trash. 1977 The first sports bra was created in 1977 by three students from Vermont University, Lisa Lindahl, Linda Mille, and Polly Smith. They called it the Jogbra. It was the talk of the town, made from two jog straps that were stitched together. The girls swooned over numerous well-known underwear companies.
1990 On her Blond Ambition Tour, pop artist Madonna made a strong fashion statement. She displayed her pointed cone-shaped corset (designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier). 2000 The most elaborate and expensive pair of underwear ever constructed, the $15 million Red Hot Fantasy Bra is composed of red satin with hand-cut Thai rubies and diamonds. It is included in the Guinness Book of Records
